Served during the 194-18 War with British forces in East Africa against German led Askari, and was awarded the MC. Commanding 2/19th Battalion, 2 AIF. He commanded the unit throughout the campaign in Malaya, and his outstanding work over four critical day in 1942 in the Muar River area resulted in the award of the Victoria Cross. With the surrender of the Allied force in Malaya 1942 Colonel Anderson became a prisoner of war and remained in captivity until the collapse of Japan. | ||
