| Summary: | Depicts eight carved wooden figures of Anzac soldiers in uniform. The figures stand upon white crosses that contrast starkly with the richly textured carved wood with its burnt and rubbed-back finish. The ensemble resulted from a visit to to Melbourne, where Dudley visited a firend who was, at the time, working on the publication of Patsy Adam Smith's 'The Anzacs'. In the course of the meeting the proposition was put to Dudley that he should, as an Australian working overseas, attempt a truly Australian theme. On his return to Italy Dudley began some preliminary studies resulting in this piece. | ||
