| Physical description: | Metal; Paint; Rubber; String; Vinyl; A Second World War pressed metal safety helmet as worn by munitions factory fire officers. It has a rim diameter of 310 mm and is painted gloss black. This colour extends to the underneath of the rim. There is a gold monogram on the front with the letters "EFM" over a white painted scroll bearing the words "FIRE SERVICE" in red paint. The initials probably stand for Explosives Factory Maribyrnong. The number 50 has been painted in gold on the rear of the helmet. Internally the helmet retains it vinyl and rubber liner which is fitted with a black drawstring to allow for adjustment. The head size "7 1/2" has been marked in white paint on the rear of the liner. With the exception of the rim, the interior of the helmet retains its original mid-grey factory finish. | ||
