- Summary
- Bomb fragment collected from H.M.A.H.S. "Manunda". On 19th February, 1942, the hospital ship "Manunda", then at Darwin, was damaged during the first of two Japanese air raids on Darwin on that day. This large bomb fragment is stated by the donor to be part of the bombcase which made a direct hit on "Manunda". The donor was Second Chief Engineer aboard "Manunda" and on the morning after the raid, he found this piece of steel shrapnel embedded in a freezer door in Number 3 Hold.
