- RAAF cricket cap worn by Keith Ross Miller. The cap is of navy blue wool and is lined with black cotton fabric. A white cotton label inside the crown is marked in black ink with Miller's signature, and stamped in purple ink with the size '6 3/4'. On the front of the cap is sewn an embroidered RAAF badge in yellow, red, blue, white and green cotton.
- Summary
- Keith Ross Miller was born in Sunshine, Victoria, in 1919, and named after aviators Keith and Ross Smith, whose pioneering flight from England to Australia coincided with his birth. He represented Victoria as a Sheffield Shield cricketer before the war, and joined the RAAF as No 410608 in 1942. After completing pilot training, Miller was sent to the United Kingdom, where he flew de Havilland Mosquitos on operations with 169 Squadron RAF. In 1943 he was selected in the Australian Services XI and went on to play in the Victory Tests and in the tour of India which followed. His efforts in these matches led to his selection in the Australian team, where he became famous as perhaps the finest all-rounder ever produced by this country, playing in 55 Test matches between 1946 and 1956. Keith Ross Miller was awarded the MBE in 1956.
