Summary: The Dutch submarine HNMS K-XVI on the surface in Netherlands East Indies (NEI) waters before the outbreak of the Second World War. This submarine was successful in sinking the Japanese destroyer Sagiri off the coast of Borneo, on 24 December 1941. However, the following day, K-XVI was itself torpedoed and sunk with all hands near Kuching, off the coast of Borneo by the Japanese submarine I-66.
