HAMMOND WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL (MM) 1915, THE MILITARY CROSS (MC) 1917, AND A BAR TO HIS MC IN 1918. BORN IN ENGLAND, HE MIGRATED TO AUSTRALIA 1911 AND ENLISTED 1915 IN THE 28TH BATTALION. HE DIED OF WOUNDS 1918-06-14. (ORIGINAL IN AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIAL ARCHIVAL STORE).
