| Summary: | Studio portrait of Mrs Minnie Augusta Rattigan and a soldier, believed to be 2176 Private Frederick Trice 4th Pioneer Battalion, one of the three soldiers involved in making the patriotic outfit worn by Mrs Rattigan. The three soldiers may have met Mrs Rattigan at the canteen at 2AAH. The canteen had been opened in late 1916, as a branch of the Anzac Buffet. Mrs Rattigan was one of the co-founders of the Anzac Buffet and ran the Buffet two days a week from 6am to 10.30pm. This outfit was made by three double amputees, 4439 Private Malcolm Brown 47th Battalion, 22 Private Joseph Allen Baillie 35th Battalion and Private Trice while at No 2 Australian Auxiliary Hospital (2 AAH). The outfit was most likely made between November 1918 and January 1919, but the exact date is unknown. The cloche hat and tabard she is wearing each have a Rising Sun badge enbroidered on the front. The skirt has battalion colour patches forming part of the design. The dress is held at REL/01748 in the Memorial's collection. | ||
