Snow and ice cover the flight deck of the aircraft carrier HMAS Sydney and aircraft of the 20th Carrier Air Group, Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Fleet Air Arm, lined up on it. At left are Fairey Firefly aircraft of either No. 805 or 808 Squadron, while at right are Hawker Sea Fury aircraft of No. 817 Squadron. The bitterly cold weather caused moving parts of the aircraft to freeze solid, prevented them from flying. (Donor R. Miller) | ||
