Summary: Informal portrait of three officer Prisoners of War (POW) relaxing at the table in their barracks at a POW camp in Karlsruhe, Germany. Identified left to right, Lieutenant (Lt) John Ingram, 15th Battalion, from Gympie, QLD; Captain (Capt) David Dunworth, 18th Battalion, from Arncliffe, NSW; and Lt P. van Rossam, Belgian Army. Lt Ingram enlisted as a 26 year old Private on 15 December 1914 and embarked for overseas on 13 February 1915 aboard HMAT Seang Bea. Following service at Gallipoli, he went on to serve on the Western Front. He was promoted to 2nd Lt in the field on 4 October 1916 and was wounded and captured on 11 April 1917 at Reincourt, France. After six months in a POW camp at Karlsruhe he was transferred to another camp at Freiburg and held there until he was repatriated to England on 6 December 1918. John Ingram arrived back in Australia on 30 April 1919 having been promoted to Capt on 1 April 1919. Capt Dunworth enlisted on 12 May 1915 at the age of 26 and embarked for overseas on 2 November 1915 aboard HMAT Euripides. He was captured with Lt Ingram at Reincourt, France on 11 April 1917 and also spent time in POW camps at Karlsruhe and Freiburg. Capt Dunworth was repatriated to Holland in April 1918 and then onto England in August 1918. One of a series of over 400 photographs sent by Australian POWs in German camps to Miss M. E.
