| Summary: | Hill Sardine or Salmon, Korea, 1951-04. A solidly-constructed dugout used by Communist Chinese troops is sited in a well-camouflaged position among trees and rocks on the side of a hill. The dugout is roofed with logs and has walls made of rocks, hay and matting, while hay strewn over its roof provides concealment. The dugout was discovered when soldiers of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), attacked and captured the hill. A shoe lost by a Chinese soldier lies on the ground at right.
