| Summary: | Senior Australian officials of the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) stand in a hall at Rame’ai village, during a RAMSI information meeting. Left to right: Nick Warner of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, RAMSI Special Coordinator; Assistant Commissioner Ben McDevitt of the Australian Federal Police, RAMSI Participating Police Force Commander; Lieutenant Colonel John Frewen, Commander of the Coalition Task Force; and Alan Moody of AusAID, RAMSI Aid Development Coordinator. They are wearing flower garlands, presented as a gesture of welcome by local children, who are now singing a song to them. Rame’ai is in northern Malaita, a region that had experienced considerable violence and unrest due to the activities of armed militants, prior to the arrival of the multi-national policing and military intervention in July 2003. Three police posts were established on Malaita by the multi-national RAMSI Participating Police Force, with logistical, security and intelligence support provided by RAMSI military forces, including Australian troops deployed under Operation Anode. | ||
