| Summary: | Unidentified Australian soldiers secure the beachhead at Red Beach, as a bulldozer prepares the way for vehicles to drive off an Army Landing Craft Medium (LCM8) (serial number AB 1050 or 1059). The troops have been landed from HMAS Manoora, operating in Iron Bottom Sound, on the first day of Operation Anode, Australia's military and policing contribution to the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI). Having secured the area, Australian soldiers established a base camp nearby, at the former Guadalcanal Beach Resort. Red Beach had also been the location for American amphibious landings during the Guadalcanal campaign during the Second World War. | ||
