| Summary: | Two unidentified Australian soldiers observe their surroundings having just landed at Red Beach, Guadalcanal. They have been brought ashore by an Australian Army Landing Craft Medium (LCM8) from HMAS Manoora , which is operating in Iron Bottom Sound on the first day of Operation Anode, Australia's military and policing contribution to the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI). Having secured the beach area with no armed opposition, Australian soldiers established a base camp nearby, at the former Guadalcanal Beach Resort. Red Beach had also been the location for American amphibious landings during the Guadalcanal campaign of the Second World War. | ||
