| Summary: | Associated with Lieutenant George Box Carter MC, 4 Pioneer Battalion. He enlisted as a private (signaller) in 10 Battalion on 2 September 1914, and was one of the first ashore with Major C R Brand (Brigade Major) when 3 Brigade landed at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. As the major's signaller, Carter used the flag during the first couple of days to indicate the establishment and progress of the initial firing line to Major-General E G Sinclair-MacLagan (Brigadier). The Brigadier made decisions on the disposition of troops that landed later, on the basis of signals received from this flag. Carter was later commissioned and returned to Australia as lieutenant on 18 July 1919. | ||
